Developing and Disciplining Your Judgment
Developing and Disciplining Your Judgment
Introduction
Developing and Disciplining Your Judgment contains two foundational Catalytic Thinking Labs that support all four Arenas.
The Practice of Good Judgment Lab offers a self-knowledge audit tool to assess personal development over time. Good judgment is rooted in professional maturity.
Developing Better Judgment Lab is an ongoing practice to self-reflect and explore reasoning and judgment through storytelling.
Both Labs are required for all Arena Certificates.
The Practice of Good Judgment
The Practice of Good Judgment Lab is an important step in developing and disciplining your judgment.
Thinking and reasoning is an invisible process that you can learn. Practicing these four inner-world tools hones leading and supporting skills that are essential for today’s organizations and the complex conditions we face.
-
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Reflection
- Self-Assessment
- Self-Correction
Recommendation 1
Take this Lab and complete The Practice of Good Judgment Audit before taking other Labs. This audit gives a baseline to measure and self-reflect on your development over time.
Recommendation 2
Repeat the audit at the end of any Catalytic Thinking Lab Certificate.
Compare your audits as you strengthen your skills over time.
Developing Better Judgment
Developing Better Judgment Lab fosters healthy judgment within teams and organizations. Trusting the judgment of those we work with is paramount to healthy team dynamics as well as the capacity to do our best work both individually and collectively.
The activity requires groups. You can adjust the group size based on your context. If working in groups is not possible, individuals will still benefit from the presentation and can adapt the storytelling activity to a journal writing activity.
Recommendation 1
This is an excellent entry point for teams on the front end of any of the Catalytic Thinking Lab Arenas or certificate courses. It is a good addition to a board/staff meeting to invest in improving your organizational culture.
Recommendation 2
Include this Lab at the end of every certificate program as a structured way for your team to self-reflect and explore good judgment and reasoning.
