Activity 1 – Negotiating Professional Development
Step 1
On a large sheet of paper make a map of the chalkboard.
Step 2
On the left side, reflect on situations in your life where you were in a dependent learning environment. How did you feel? What were some of your experiences?
On the right side, reflect on situations in your life where you were in an independent learning environment. How did you feel? What were some of your experiences? What skills, capacities, and attitudes do you want to develop professionally? List them.
In the middle, explore interdependent learning at work. How can you become more effective on your professional development path at negotiating what you need to develop. Look at the skills, capacities, and attitudes you listed on the right side of your map. How can you negotiate a path at work to develop these?
Step 3
Get in groups of 3-4 and discuss your maps.
