ACTIVITY 1  The Big Switch Barrier and Opportunity Analysis

Step 1

Work in small groups of 2-4 exploring The Big Switch first in terms of barriers and then identifying opportunities to bring this mindset into your organization.

Step 2

Using the chalkboard photo as a guide, make a shared knowledge map of The Big Switch. Perform a barrier analysis of your organization examining how people in your organization deal with complex issues. Where is there resistance to The Big Switch? What will get in the way of making these shifts in your organizations? As you discuss each switch, note your observations on your map.

Step 3

When you complete the barrier analysis, you will identify a complex issue either within or facing your organization. Imagine the kinds of communications that will be necessary to bring about The Big Switch around this issue? Imagine the communication challenges you expect to find. Based on these challenges, how can you design ways to help move this mindset forward within your organization’s leadership and across the organization?
