Adult Learning
Introduction
Children and adults learn differently. As adults we need to develop an appropriate path of learning. Coenraad van Houten, author Awakening The Will, describes how adults develop original work in relationship to a learning path.
These steps have a relationship to time, to our attention, and willingness to surrender to a path. It takes practice (and time) to refine our abilities. After observing many students, Aikido Master Sensei George Leonard synthesized four archetypal learning paths:
Dabblers
Obsessive
Hackers
Path of Mastery
Mastery is a long-term commitment to improvement. Improvement comes incrementally. There is a sentiment, love the plateau, that is about the relationship to practice itself.
