Systemic Implications for Management Practices

ACTIVITY 1 Accelerating Knowledge Sharing
Each Catalytic Thinking Lab is supported by a WindTunneling project. WindTunneling is a systemic methodology to accelerate learning and knowledge sharing. Share what you learned from the lab transparently and anonymously. Compare your thinking and respond to the ideas of others. Everyone gets to see every idea; no one knows who shared which idea.
Go to WindTunneling. Use Project Code 77NCN to record your insights.
ACTIVITY 2 Core Concept Expansion
Pick the three least familiar core concepts from the supplemental practices.
Holism, Emergence, Patterning, Relativism, Collectivism, Sustainability,
Retrospective Cause and Effect, Egalitarian Leadership, Continuous Improvement, Diversity, Criticality, Unique Practices
On a large sheet of a paper, explore each word using the Core Concept Expansion Technique.
- Write out the Lexical or Dictionary Definition and Etymology (optional)
- What is the opposite word?
- What is a synonym of the word? How are they different?
- How is this word used (and/or mis-used) in professional settings
- What is your first memory (or earliest feeling impression) of the word?
- What is the colloquial (everyday common) use of the word?
- Does the word evoke a color, shape, image, or heat (feeling)?
ACTIVITY 3 Personal Systemic Practices Possibility Audit
Create a knowledge map of the 12 systemic thinking practices discussed in the presentation. Use the chalkboard as a reference. Draw your map creatively. Explore your relationship to the key words, e.g, holism. In the lab you audited your organization, now audit yourself. Are these ideas new to you? What questions do you have about them? What would you need to learn to be able to bring these thinking practices to your work?
