Characteristics of Complex Issues

ACTIVITY 1 Accelerating Knowledge Sharing
Each Catalytic Thinking Lab is supported by a WindTunneling project. WindTunneling is a systemic methodology to accelerate learning and knowledge sharing. Share what you learned from the lab transparently and anonymously. Compare your thinking and respond to the ideas of others. Everyone gets to see every idea; no one knows who shared which idea.
Go to WindTunneling. Use Project Code 77NCD to record your insights.
ACTIVITY 2 Create a Knowledge Map
On a big sheet of paper using colored pens or pencils, make a free form list of complex issues. Organize your knowledge map anyway you like, for example, you could focus on complex issues in your personal life, in your community, and at work. You could focus on complex issues in society, in the environment, in politics or in an industry, e.g., technology. Think about how lack of definition regarding who is the “We” and clarity of higher purpose affects any or all of these issues.
ACTIVITY 3 Journaling
Take 15 minutes to write reflecting on what you learned studying Characteristis of Complex Issues.
What big insights did you have?
How does thinking about the characteristics of complex issues affect how you think about the world you live in?
Where do you struggle in relationship to complex issues and how could clarity of higher purpose help guide decision-making?
