Activity 1 –  Drafting Higher Purpose Statements

Step 1 – Drafting Higher Purpose Statements*

On a large sheet of paper, draw three columns using the chalkboard as a reference. Label them: Personal HP | Professional HP | Community HP

* In subsequent Catalytic Thinking Labs, this knowledge map will be referred to as your 3-Column Statement Map. You will continue to use this in other Applied Critical Thinking Labs.

Step 2

In each column, practice writing draft higher purposes. Write 2-3 simple sentence drafts for a purpose in each column.

Write your statements:

My higher purpose is …

My professional purpose is…

My community purpose is…

Step 3

Synthesize and Share.
What connects the statements in your three columns?
How do they align or not?
How do they relate to your ideals and values?
At the end of the lab, spend 5 minutes talking about your purposes with 1-2 other people.
