Opportunity Statements
ACTIVITY 1 Crafting Opportunity Statements
Step 1
Work in pairs. Look at the different ‘easels’ together: what matters to you?
Step 2
Where do you have an idea, based on a theme, pattern, or emergent idea?
Step 3
Work with a partner to create Opportunity Statements. Download and print out the Opportunity Statement Form or copy the format from the chalkboard on a piece of paper. In conversation, distill a response to each question in one sentence:
What theme or aspect of the issue are you addressing?
What is your idea for improvement?
How would it work?
Why would it help?
Step 1
Work in pairs, for 30-60 minutes. One option is to change partners halfway through the time to generate fresh thinking.
Step 2
Focus on an area of your organization, e.g., operations, finance, or customer service. Identify areas where you believe things might improve.
Step 3
Craft several opportunity statements following the Opportunity Statement Form.
